I am inspired by the beauty of the English countryside, particularly Dorset with its jurrasic coastline. I work in oils and describe my style as modern contemporary impressionist. My favourite elements to paint are the sky, trees and water. These are always a challenge but an enjoyable one. I enjoy being out in the elements and seeing first hand all nature’s moods. I try to capture the essence and spirit of a scene by reducing it down to the key elements, removing as much detail as possible. I look for the light and dark passages (sunlight and shadow). This forms an under lying abstract pattern. I work as quickly as possible using bold energetic brushwork and palette knife impasto to convey energy and life into the work, hopefully leaving the viewer with an impression, as if seeing the original subject.
