Artist’s Statement:

As a ceramicist, my work is constantly evolving. I am often associated with my botanically themed pieces which, through the use of plants, links my work to the English countryside. More recently however, I have been enjoying working with porcelain, creating jewellery items. I am also learning about the Japanese tradition of Boro Boro, a form of “make do and mend”, whereby I “stitch” together pieces of textured clay, echoing the tradition of Japanese farmers who sewed their worn jackets with remnants of cloth, maintaining them and creating in the process a garment of beauty. Whilst my pieces cannot lay claim to being especially environmentally friendly, they do celebrate and reflect the current necessity to consider unnecessary waste and the preservation of world resources.
