Artist’s Statement:

“Aline Johnson creates Cyanotype prints on velvet cushions and silk scarves. She uses local botanicals, feathers and seaweed. Cyanotype is a form of sun printing, using chemicals to make the fabric light sensitive and sunlight to expose the designs (leaves,,feathers etc).
She also ecoprints on silk scarves, using a steaming technique to fix the colours and shapes of the leaves to the fabric, creating unique prints straight from nature.
Aline works from her studio in Church Knowle since Covid. Prior to that she worked in London for 20 years as a glass maker, designing and producing kilnformed glass chandeliers and lighting. She still teaches kilnformed glass at West Dean College in West Sussex. She will have some of her kilnformed glass vessels on display. She still does the occasional chandelier commission. But she works more with textiles, going back to her first career in fashion design.”
